Roofing & Gutters
How often should I have my roof replaced?
The lifespan of a roof is dependent on many factors including what location or environment the roof is in, what roofing material was used, and unfortunately what insurance requirements are in your area. In general, an asphalt roof will often last between 13-25 years, and a metal roof will last between 45-70 years.
What is the most cost effective roof?
In the short term, an asphalt shingle roof has the lowest costs. Long term, however, using a metal roof that does not have to be replaced multiple times in a 40+ year span can provide substantial long-term savings.
What types of roofing options does Smart Volt offer?
Smart Volt can show you multiple options depending on your roof layout. We have Modified Bitumen, Asphalt shingle, TPO, metal standing seam, concrete tile, metal barrel tile, metal shingle, and metal shake roof options.
Will I have a warranty on my roofing with and without solar?
Yes, our team will be with you every step of the way, and you will see the warranty options on your roofing with some roofing and solar combinations even coming with a 30 year penetration warranty! We are dedicated to providing ongoing support to ensure your system continues to meet your needs.
What can help my roof last longer?
Roofs that are regularly maintained can last longer than the timelines mentioned above. Taking great care of your roof and attending to issues soon after they arise will likely protect your investment for much longer..
How much will a new roof cost?
This is not a standard answer because every home situation and roof is different. The cost of a new roof will depend on many items, including material, size, labor, number of floors, slope and more. The best way to get an accurate estimate is to call or message us and we can provide one for no cost.
Does my house have to have gutters?
Gutters are made to be one use only generally and while we make every attempt to save and re-use them if they are not attached by spikes.
Since a gutter is designed to take rain away from your house they can serve a valuable purpose. The gutters catch water as it runs down off your roof, then take it into a downspout that leads the water away. This system works to decrease your home’s foundation risk of eroding, any basement from flooding, and your siding from growing mildew or mold.

Per IRS, to qualify for the 30% residential federal tax credit, a homeowner must install a qualified new clean energy install completed on your main home between 2022 and 2032. LINK Some homeowners have question on how this will interact with their personal tax situation. For this detailed personal answer, please consult your individual tax professional.
Do solar panels work in a black-out?
Due to requirements for UL1741, solar systems are required to automatically shut down if the grid goes down. This rule is to prevent backfeed into the grid and cause catastrophic issues when the grid is expecting not to be energized. It is possible to avoided this with battery backup as the home can form a microgrid with the solar and the battery which allows it to continue to function even when the utility grid is off.
